What our client wanted
Our Surrey client wanted a media wall that offered plenty of practical storage without making the room feel overly modern.
Rather than choosing a completely minimalist TV wall, they wanted the furniture to have more of a traditional character, with shaker-style cupboard doors, visible door knobs and cornicing to give the finished design a more classic feel.
The aim was to create somewhere for the television and associated equipment while also providing enclosed storage that could keep everyday items neatly out of sight.
The use of MDF allowed us to create the bespoke cabinetry and detailed profiles needed for the design, while giving the entire installation a consistent, built-in appearance.

The design process
With a traditional-style media wall, the proportions and detailing are particularly important. The shaker doors, handles and cornicing all need to work together so that the finished piece feels like intentional furniture rather than a standard media unit with decorative details added afterwards.
We refined the layout around the size and position of the television, while allowing enough room for the cabinetry and storage to feel balanced within the wall.
Key design decisions included:
Shaker-style cupboard doors to introduce traditional detailing
Door knobs rather than concealed or push-to-open mechanisms, giving the cabinetry a more classic furniture feel
Cornicing across the top of the media wall to tie the installation into the room's existing style
Integrated LED strip lighting to add a softer layer of illumination around the media wall
Bespoke MDF construction so the dimensions and details could be tailored specifically to the room
Enclosed storage to keep media equipment and everyday belongings neatly hidden away
The result was a design that combines the practical benefits of a modern media wall with the appearance of more traditional fitted furniture.
Building the media wall
Once the design was agreed, the media wall was built to fit the room rather than relying on an off-the-shelf unit.
The MDF construction allowed us to create the cabinetry, TV section and surrounding details as one cohesive installation. Particular attention was paid to the shaker doors and their alignment, as well as the positioning of the door knobs.
Cornicing was added to the top of the media wall to give the installation a more established, furniture-like appearance. This small detail makes a significant difference to the overall character of the finished piece.
The LED strip lighting was also incorporated during the build, allowing the lighting to sit neatly within the design rather than looking like an afterthought.

The Finished Media Wall
The finished Surrey media wall brings together traditional detailing and modern entertainment in one bespoke piece of furniture.
The shaker cupboards and door knobs give the installation a timeless character, while the integrated LED strip lighting adds a more contemporary touch when the room is being used in the evening.
Importantly, the design doesn't rely on an electric fire to make an impact. By concentrating on the cabinetry, proportions, lighting and detailing, the media wall works as a feature in its own right.
For homeowners who like the idea of a bespoke media wall but don't want an ultra-modern look, this project shows how shaker cabinetry, handles and cornicing can be used to create something much warmer and more traditional.
Every Cine Spark media wall is designed around the individual room, television and storage requirements, so the finished installation can be made to suit both the practical needs of the space and the style of the home.
