What our client wanted
Create a sleek, contemporary media wall with premium natural materials, concealed storage, and feature lighting that would become the focal point of the room without the need for a fireplace.

The design process
Our client in Barnet, London wanted a contemporary media wall that would completely transform the feel of their living room. Rather than incorporating a fireplace, the focus was on creating a minimalist feature wall using premium natural materials, bespoke cabinetry and carefully considered lighting. As part of the renovation, the existing coving was removed to achieve a cleaner, more modern aesthetic.
The client approached us with an AI-generated inspiration image that captured the style they were looking for. While this provided a useful starting point, our role was to turn the concept into a practical, buildable design tailored specifically to their room, dimensions and lifestyle.
Using the client's measurements, our design team developed a bespoke media wall concept that refined the proportions, cabinetry layout and lighting details while ensuring the finished installation would be both beautiful and functional.
The design incorporated:
Bespoke Honey Oak veneered cabinetry for a warm, premium finish.
A contemporary oak slatted feature wall behind the television.
Integrated LED lighting above the slatted wall to create a soft architectural glow.
Concealed LED lighting beneath the cabinetry to give the illusion of a floating TV unit.
Practical built-in storage with hidden cable management for a clean, uncluttered appearance.
By carefully developing the client's initial inspiration into a bespoke design and providing a sampling service for materials, we created a media wall that balanced contemporary styling with everyday practicality, ensuring every detail was considered before manufacture and installation began.
Building the media wall
This project showcases the quality of bespoke furniture manufacturing and precision installation.
Every cabinet was manufactured using premium furniture-grade veneered board, finished in a beautiful Honey Oak veneer that brings warmth, depth and natural character to the room.
The oak slatted feature wall was carefully installed to achieve perfectly even spacing, creating a striking backdrop for the television. Above, a discreet lighting pelmet conceals the LED strip, allowing light to wash gently down the timber slats without exposing the light source itself.
To enhance the contemporary feel, additional LED lighting was installed beneath the cabinetry. This creates the impression that the entire cabinet is floating above the floor, adding depth and atmosphere, particularly during the evening.
The finished installation demonstrates how thoughtful design, premium materials and meticulous craftsmanship can transform a simple television wall into a bespoke piece of furniture.

The Finished Media Wall
The completed media wall delivers exactly what the client envisioned... a refined, contemporary centrepiece that combines luxury materials with understated design.
Without the inclusion of a fireplace, the emphasis falls entirely on the warmth of the Honey Oak veneer, the beautifully detailed slatted feature wall and the carefully layered lighting. The floating effect created by the concealed LEDs adds a sense of lightness, while the generous built-in storage keeps the living space organised and clutter free.
This Barnet project is a perfect example of how a bespoke media wall doesn't need a fireplace to make a statement. By combining premium veneered finishes, architectural lighting and handcrafted cabinetry, we created a feature that is both elegant and highly functional.
